The Mariposa Composting Facility is the first of its kind in California with an in-vessel composting system entirely enclosed within a building including an aeration system and a biofilter. A scale house and recycling area are tied to a fully paved area on which landfill users will travel to dispose of their waste.

The removal of recyclable materials from the waste stream, the potential offsite uses of the compost product, and the volume reduction achieved in the composting process are all aspects of this project that will contribute to the county’s meeting its mandated diversion requirements under AB 939. This coupled with the more efficient use of the remaining landfill volume will extend the useful life of the landfill.
