The 21,000 square foot, two-story facility houses 10 (24-hour) shift personnel and 14 (8-hour) day personnel. The design includes a secure public reception area, classrooms, and a conference room. Additional site features include a 2,700 square foot maintenance shop, fuel storage and dispenser island, and a training tower structure. The shop features include drop down dispensing lines for grease, oil, water, and air and wash racks with catch basins for pressure washing and steam cleaning vehicles. Carlton Engineering provided geotechnical, civil, survey and structural engineering services for the project.

Carlton’s Structural Engineering group was involved in the project from conceptual design through project closeout. The challenges addressed during the design included the ‘Stair-step” building geometry and the combination of single story, high-bay and two-story wood framed construction. The cost savings decision to utilize all wood frame construction required special consideration in the design of the clear span trusses over the engine bays.
