Teaming partner, Abide International was contracted with USBR to install new bifurcations for the existing 42-inch pipeline at both upstream and downstream locations.  Carlton provided civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering and land surveying services for the replacement of the 42” overland waterline.  An accidental collapsed of 350 feet of the pipeline during dewatering operations affected the main water supply for the City of Folsom and required emergency-level repair.  Additionally, an emergency 24” waterline was used to bypass the collapsed waterline.  The 24” emergency bypass line was operational in less than 30 hours.  Work under the original scope of the contract also included the design of staging areas, temporary drainage facilities and access roads so that construction equipment could efficiently be staged and easily access the portions of the waterline requiring repair.  Additional services from Carlton provided construction observation and testing services in accordance with USBR requirements.
