Peddler Hill consisted of constructing a tower supported on a concrete mat
foundation; this foundation type was preferred by California State's Dept. of General Services because of cost and construction considerations.

The tower transmits reactions to the foundation of approximately 78 kips downward force and approximately 40,000 kip-in moment. Having specialized sampling equipment and drillers with coring experience in Mehrten Formation volcanic rock or granite was critical.
